Background
HEC1 is one of the proteins of outer kinetochore which has microtubule-binding domains. It forms a heterotetramer with proteins NUF2, SPC25, and SPC24. HEC1 acts as a component of the essential kinetochore-associated NDC80 complex, which is required for chromosome segregation and spindle checkpoint activity. It Plays a role in chromosome congression and is essential for the end-on attachment of the kinetochores to spindle microtubules.
